Several country clubs in the US actually bear the name Westmoreland Country Club. The Westmoreland Country Club we’re focusing on is in Wilmette, Illinois, and it is about 14 miles north of the downtown district of Chicago.
It’s also a Platinum Club of America, ranked 146th among the many thousands of country clubs in the US. With the high quality of amenities and services here, it’s not surprising that the regular golf membership initiation fee is $75,000. Some people might even call that a bargain. The club currently has 580 members, and the membership is nearly full.
It’s been around since 1911, with the golf course originally designed by William Watson in 1912. William Langford and A. W. Tillinghast made some changes during the early 1920s, and then Arthur Hills did a major renovation in 1993. Today, this is a truly exceptional championship golf course, supported by an excellent golf learning center.
The racquets program at Westmoreland is also exceptional, with 6 Har-Tru tennis courts and a tennis shop and patio. A new platform tennis house was also recently built with 6 courts. The championship aquatics complex is simply fantastic, and there’s a pool café there as well. And skeet shooting is popular on Saturdays during the winter season.
The clubhouse is huge with 65,000 square feet, and it’s filled with so many dining venues and options. Aside from the halfway house at the golf course and the seasonal poolside café, you simply have lots of other dining amenities to try out.
There’s the bar with 67 seats, and the grill room for 86 people. The patio offers outdoor dining for 108, while the formal dining room seats 38. The Crab Apple patio is good for 50 seats, while the men’s locker room grill can accommodate another 50 patrons. You also have an intimate cocktail lounge with enough space for 16. The new paddle house restaurant seats another 39, aside from the bar and fireplace soft seating.
The banquet facilities include the Windsor Room and Porch, along with the Living Room and Porch. The Library/Boardroom is much smaller, for just 20 people. For grander celebrations, the tented Terrace can accommodate up to 300 guests.
