This is one of the oldest golf clubs in the US, as it was originally founded in 1896. It opened its East Course in 1912, replacing the original course. It opened the West Course in 1914, becoming the first club in the US to boast of two 18-hole championship layouts.

It has played host to numerous prestigious events, including the 1930 US Amateur, the 1934 US Open, the 1960 World Amateur Team Championship, and the 1971 US Open (where Lee Trevino dramatically won an 18-hole playoff victory over Jack Nicklaus. It also hosted the 2013 US Open.

Its home website doesn’t contain any membership cost information, but Forbes has reported that the initiation fees start at $70,000. The annual dues start at $6,000 and can go up a lot more.

Player’s Notes

While the West Course is amazing, it’s not surprising that the East Course is more famous. It’s not just its lofty history, with lots of championship events held there. It’s also because it’s not long by current standards, but it’s still difficult to play. Every hole is a challenge.

This is located in Haverford Township, Pennsylvania near the border with Philadelphia. That’s why if you play here, you’ll be hobnobbing with Philadelphia’s elite.
