If you’re ever in the neighborhood of Kahala in Honolulu, you may want to visit the Waialae Country Club. And once you get to see the place (while accompanied by a member), then you may just want to be a member yourself. The place is great, especially if you love golf.
The golf course at the Waialae Country Club was actually opened way back in 1927. The country club followed 3 years later, but then that came with exclusive rights to play on this championship golf course. Today, only the members of the country club are allowed to play here, along with their invited guests.
The golf course was originally designed by Seth Raynor. But over the years, upgrades to the course have been made by Robert Trent Jones, Desmond Muirhead, Rick Smith, Tom Doak. The course has been the host of the PGA event Sony Open, since 1965.
Members also enjoy a 250-yard driving range, chipping and putting greens, full professional instruction options, and a pro golf shop. There’s also a snack bar you can visit right before (or right after) your round of golf.
This golf course is so famous that it was featured in a video game for the Super Nintendo system and the Nintendo 64. It’s also included in the Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13 game from EA Sports (and also in the earlier editions).
But golf is not the only amenity you can find in this decidedly upscale country club. One notable feature here is the Hale Ohana Ola “House of Family & Fitness”, with 5.179 square feet of space with a wide range of workout rooms. These include an exercise room and a fitness room featuring Life Fitness exercise machines, plus lockers and shower facilities. It also has 2 multi-functional rooms for social gatherings and various types of meetings.
Other facilities here include the tennis courts, which feature Omnicourt surfacing along with tennis shower facilities and locker rooms. There’s a swimming pool as well.
Membership costs have not been officially released, but reports peg the membership initiation fee anywhere from $52,000 to $67,300. Monthly dues are estimated at $470 per month.
