First off, the Philadelphia Cricket Club has 3 locations. The St. Martins Clubhouse is at West Willow Grove Avenue Philadelphia. The Wissahickon Clubhouse is at West Valley Green Road Flourtown, while the Militia Hill Clubhouse is at Stenton Avenue Plymouth Meeting.
Despite the name, the Philadelphia Cricket Club is not only about cricket. Sure, it has a competitive cricket team that co-hosts a yearly cricketing event. It also has a cricket field and a croquet filed, along with squash courts
And it’s not all about tennis either, which is actually the main focus of plenty of “cricket clubs” these days. But a tennis enthusiast can’t complain about the tennis facilities, as there are as many as 34 tennis courts, with lots of different playing surfaces
These days, it’s all about golf. And this is the golf that seems to attract lots of local bigwigs, including the governor Ed and Judge Midge Rendell. Senator Arlen Specter is also a member. Both of the gold courses at Wissahickon and Militia Hill are excellent 18-hole courses, and there’s also a 9-hole course.
Other amenities include the fitness center, and the various dining facilities. The club also hosts various social events throughout the year.
There are several different types of memberships. There’s the Full Privileges membership, and the Golf-in-Waiting membership. Other types include Intermediate, House, and National. Basically, these other memberships have limitations on how much golf you can play.
Membership is extremely difficult to obtain. Last time we checked, most of the membership types are already at capacity, as membership is capped. So, there’s likely a long wait before you can get a membership for full privileges, golf-in-waiting, or a national golf membership.
It doesn’t help your cause when the membership costs are actually quite reasonable. Some may even find it absurdly affordable, as a full membership reportedly comes with a membership initiation fee of only around $36,000 with another $9,500 for the yearly dues.
Without the golf, the initiation fee comes down to just $10,000 with annual dues of $4,000. The annual food minimum for all membership types is less than $1,000 (around $800 or so).
