The Eldorado Country Club isn’t just a mere club. It’s actually a private golf community owned by its members. It was established in 1957 off Eldorado Dr. near Fairway Dr., in Indian Wells, California. This is a relaxing refuge for members, and one of those members was President Eisenhower—and he wasn’t the only President to be a member of Eldorado (there were 3 others).
It’s often said that the main focus of Eldorado is the camaraderie between the members. It wasn’t about the clubhouse amenities, nor was golf the main focus. But of course, those things eventually came in.
For golf, the original course was designed by William F. Cody. That was redesigned by Tom Fazio, fairly recently in 2003. The golfing facilities also include a driving range, a short game area, a putting green, and a pro shop.
The club hosts several other activities aside from golf. There are facilities for active fitness, and there’s also a pool. Hiking is a favorite activity. Of course, there’s also the dining room, and it serves world-class cuisine.
It’s true that 70% of the members own homes nearby. But membership to the Eldorado Country Club isn’t strictly connected to real estate in any way. You can come in as a guest of a member, and like most others, you’ll fall in love with the place. That’s how most people want to be a member.
But in this case, you better pray that your love is reciprocated. Membership is by invitation only. But the membership invitations aren’t limited to local residents. That is why many of the members don’t live nearby. Many of the members come from other states. There are members from Canada, and even a few from Europe and Asia.
The full membership will require an initiation fee of $60,000 with annual dues of $23,000. You’ll be lucky to get invited for this type of membership, as it is capped to a maximum of 425 members. A social membership is also available, but the applicant must also be sponsored. With the social membership, the total dues are $30,000 per year.
