In Highland Park in Dallas, Texas, the Dallas Country Club reigns supreme as the social epicenter of Northern Texas. It’s been around since 1896, with its membership rolls filled with the most influential industrialists and politicians in the area. And while it’s old, they’ve done some renovations to the place back in the 2010s, and that had a budget of $27 million.
Membership here is a very iffy proposition. First off, don’t bother to apply. They’ll invite you, and then you can wait for an average of 7 years before you finally obtain that membership. Some members even endured membership processes that lasted 13 years.
But at least you got in, if your application actually pushes through successfully. According to some reports, it takes only 2 members to blackball an applicant. The membership initiation fee is reportedly as high as $250,000 for a full membership. It may be possible to get a social membership, but that might still cost you an initiation fee of $125,000.
It still won’t matter if you can easily pay a $1 million initiation fee. With this waiting list, you’ll be twiddling your thumbs for years. And just so you know, even A-Rod, who at the time had the most lucrative contract in the history of sports, didn’t get in.
If you do get in, you’ll marvel at the sheer elegance of the clubhouse and the 117 acres of property. The views of Turtle Creek and downtown Dallas are just magnificent, especially when you’re on the golf course. The original golf course was designed by Tom Bendelow and opened for play back in 1912, and was renovated in 2012 by Jay Morrish.
Of course, the clubhouse offers excellent dining options, as that’s to be expected. There’s also an Olympic-sized pool. But the clubhouse is simply a hangout for many of the members, where they get to socialize with their buddies. The card rooms are very popular, and rumor has it, the bets can be ridiculous. Someone even supposedly bet and lost his car dealership here. Just don’t expect to get in easily. It’s a longshot, and you really have to wait a long while!
