Despite the name, the Big Canyon Country Club is actually in Newport Beach, California, instead of the Grand Canyon. It’s a fairly new country club, as it was established in just 1971. It’s a member-owned private club, and membership is only possible if you’re invited.
Reportedly, you have to be sponsored by 2 current members. It’s a fairly large membership with more than a thousand members, and the average age of the members is 64 years old.
The Big Canyon Country Club doesn’t publicize its membership fees or the other details of the membership application process. But it was revealed in 2018 that a full golf membership will require a steep initiation fee of $195,000 with annual dues of $17,500. There’s also a minimum fee for food and drinks, and there are also usually fees when members attend events in the social calendar.
However, the club does offer other types of memberships that don’t offer full golf privileges. But the waiting list for a social membership may last 6 years, while the golf membership may be obtained after only waiting a single year.
You may want to rethink about not getting the golf privileges, as the golf course here is definitely one of the best that most people have ever played on. It was developed back in 1971, and it offers magnificent views with challenging play. The other golfing facilities include a driving range, a chipping area, a putting green, and teaching pros to help you out.
The clubhouse itself is huge, with 70,000 square feet of space. It features 3 distinct dining options, so you can go with fine dining in the evening or some casual fare during the day. Tennis buffs have 3 courts to play on, while everyone gets to enjoy the Olympic-sized pool. There’s also a fitness center, with spa services and even a barbershop.
This is a club for the entire family, as kids have summer camp and a sports camp to occupy their time. Mommy and Daddy can also relax and enjoy themselves as the club also offers childcare options.
