The Belle Mead Country Club is one of the most prestigious country clubs in the country, with roots starting back from 1901. It’s located in Belle Meade Blvd., in Nashville, Tennessee.
Membership in this club is available in several types. The most privileged is the Resident membership, which is capped to only 625 members. Information regarding the current entrance fee has not been made public. However, official records have revealed that in 2010, the entrance fee was $40,000. Another fee of $10,000 was required for the Certificate of Membership, with monthly dues of $534.
Lady memberships are offered to widows of former Resident members. In 2010, the entrance fee for this membership was $10,000 with monthly dues of $344. There’s a limited number of Associate Resident memberships available, along with Honorary and Non-Resident memberships.
To be a member, you’ll first need 2 current Resident members to propose your candidacy. Your application then goes through to the Secretary to the Board of Directors. If no one in the Board objects to your application, then the candidacy is sent to the Membership Committee.
Your proposed membership is then posted publicly for 10 days, during which there may be some objections to your candidacy from other members. These objections will then be discussed by the Membership Committee. You have to get their unanimous approval before your membership application finally goes through. It’s for this reason that some have endured waiting for that approval for as long as 5 years!
Why go through all that trouble? Aside from the networking possibilities, you get the chance to play on a golf course designed by the great Donald Ross, although other legends such as Robert Trent Jones have also made their own contributions to the evolving design. But in all honesty, the golf here actually plays second fiddle to the social aspects of the club. The place reeks of “Old Money”, and it offers you the chance to rub shoulders with some of the most influential people in the city and the state. That’s a chance that so many aspiring executives in Nashville will truly want.
