It’s actually one of the 8 country clubs in the Greenwich area, and The Stanwich Club is on North Street. It’s famous for its fantastic golf course, and for its strict rules regarding privacy.

Known as “The Witch”, the Stanwich Club in Connecticut is one of the mainstay favorite golf courses in the state. The golf course was designed by William and David Gordon and opened for play in 1964. Over the last 15 years, it’s been upgraded by the Tom Fazio group, and it sure remains one of the most highly regarded golf courses in the country. In 2021, Golf Digest rated it as the 159th best golf course in the whole US, and it’s the #1 golf course in the state.

Very little is known regarding the membership process for The Stanwich Club. Its privacy policy even prohibits the use of cellphones in the area, and taking pictures is discouraged. Members don’t talk about the fees, either, although the general consensus is that for most of these Greenwich clubs, the initiation fee runs around $80,000. But for The Stanwich Club, it’s probably closer to $120,000 with annual dues of at least $12,000.

Whatever those fees may be, the fact is that the club still attracts a ton of applications. While that may be mostly due to the fantastic golf course along with the driving range and practice putting green, The Stanwich Club does offer other attractions.

Tennis buffs can play in the great tennis facilities here, and these include paddle tennis courts. The club also has a Golf and Tennis academy for kids ages 11 to 17 years old. There’s a sports camp for kids ages 9 and 10 years old, and even a youth summer camp for kids ages 3 to 8 years old, which runs for 7 weeks. This also has a fantastic aquatics center, and get this: the swimming pool is heated.

Those with an appetite will appreciate the wide range od dining options. These include the formal dining room for fine dining, but there’s also a club room and bar room for drinks, casual dining, and schmoozing. There’s a convenient snack bar by the pool, and you can dine on the patio during the summer.

Of course, there’s also the filled up social calendar. The favorite of many is the 4th of July Family BBQ, which features great fireworks as well.
